Inositol And The Healthy Body

Inositol is considered as the well-known occurring form of the myo-inositol, cis-1, 2, 3, 5-trans-4, 6, cyclohexanehexol and it is a source of carbocyclic polyol and plays an important task in the structural basis for a various secondary messenger present in the eukaryotic cells. This includes Inositol phosphates, phosphatidylinositol (PI), phosphatidylinositol and phosphate (PIP) lipids. These elements are present in various food sources like cereals with high bran content, beans, nuts, fruits, melons and oranges. Inositol is not termed as a vitamin because it cannot be produced by the body. Various natural isomers occurring in minimized quantities are scyllo, chiro, muco, allo, epi, and cis-inositol and neo inositol. The existence of Myo-inositol is considered as a group of vitamin B complex also called as vitamin B8 helps in the production by the body.

The level of inositol is essential for health at the cellular level and the existence of inositol is found in the lens of the human eye and in the heart. Consumption of inositol by men has reported that improvement in the hair loss with minimal amount of hair falling. But the results of the consumption of inositol have not been proved clinically.

The use of inositol provides the basis for signaling a number of secondary messenger molecules and helps in the biological process of inclusion of insulin signal transduction, nerve guidance called epsin, intracellular calcium (Ca2+) concentration control, cytoskeleton assembly, serotonin activity modulation, reduction of blood cholesterol, breaking down of fats and gene expression.

Preliminary studies have revealed that the inositol supplements have exhibited promising results for diseases like bulimia, bipolar depression and panic disorder. D-chiro-inositol called as (DCI) is present in the double blind studies have made clinical hallmarks of polycystic ovary syndrome and includes the insulin resistance, hyperandrogenism and oligo-amenorrhea. The results for these deficiencies have revealed that the defect in the DCI metabolism in the polycystic ovary syndrome and suggestion of DCI in the insulin signal transduction.

The existence of myo-inositol is found in the double blind studies and helps in the effective treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder. The studies on animals have revealed that the presence of inositol have reduced the severity of the osmotic demyelination syndrome and rapid correction of chronic hyponatraemia to a certain extent. The test study of this has not been conducted in the human so far. Vitro experiments have revealed the fact that the experiences made on animal studies have revealed that the effective use of inositol with the combination of phytic acid protects from certain types of cancer.

Inositol is frequently used as an adulternt or as a cutting agent in many illegal drugs like cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin. Recommended usage of inositol is 100mg per day. Excessive intake of inositol leads to diarrhea and low toxic effects. Combination of choline and inositol along with the vitamin B groups, vitamin C, vitamin D and folic, linoleic acid helps in the increased functioning of the element inositol.
